Finding and joining a construction oriented Linked In group is fast and easy. Open your Linked In Home page and in the subject field click on the drop down then select “Groups”.
Once you have typed the term you will see a dropdown menu of options. In the “Groups” category, click on a group that seems relevant to your particular type of construction and has members that you feel are appropriate for you to network and interact with on an ongoing basis.
Once you get to the construction group page click the button to join the group. If you see a little padlock on the group, don’t panic. It simply means that you must request to join and be approved by a group administrator. Most administrators have this step up to make sure members are actually working professionals in the field that group serves. Once you are accepted, you should be able to begin posting (and reading) relevant and helpful articles, tips, and tricks of the construction trade!
You may wonder how and why contractors should join a Linked In group and why you should participate. The how works like this if you are at a networking event or a party and stood in the same place only talking about what you’ve done and what you are looking for, you would probably be ignored; however, if you provide lots of helpful advice and began sharing it to those who asked for it and needed it and furthermore begin interacting with insightful questions to the other guests, then you are likely to make worthwhile and meaningful connections that could turn into business, collaboration, or even business collaboration in the future!
Start With Nicole Allen's Home Improvement Industry Specialists Group. Nicole Allen moderates this construction related group on linked In which is targeted to the needs of Home Improvement Industry Specialists. I have a deep appreciation for the work Nicole is doing by volunteering to be a moderator and the great service she is providing to the construction industry.
I rarely recommend or endorse anything or anyone so please consider this a highly respected endorsement that I encourage all contractors to join her Linked In group and perhaps contribute to the conversations. Let’s step up and help support Nicole in the good work she is doing to support everyone involved in the construction industry.
Nicole wrote an excellent article which is posted on Shawn McCadden's site titled Joining A Contractor Trade Association Should Be An Informed Decision. By the way ShawnMcCadden.com is an excellent resource for remodel contractors and I highly recommend you check it out for yourself.
