When A Business Owner Looks For Employee – No Skills Required?

Written by Sharie DeHart | Thu, Mar 08, 2012

Many Employment Ads Seem To Say - Business Owner Is Looking For Employee – No Skills Required

How Do They Know You – Are you are a Friend of Friend?

Why Do They Hire You - Because they think it is not going to cost very much and their friend needs a job.

They Business Owner Believes - The jobs we do are simple. It’s easy and anybody can do it…that’s why they think you can too! They say things like "You can start right now. Let’s not waste time on an employment application / background check / other stuff.  No Training Required - I trust you to do the most skilled functions in my business because you need a job."

Examples Of Some Of The Best Reasons For Hiring Your Next New Employee:

Carpenter: Only skills needed – can you wear a tool bag / hold a hammer / know what a tape measure is?  Great You Are Hired!

Roofer:  Only skills needed – can you climb a ladder / toss material in the back of the truck?  Great You Are Hired!

Cement Finisher:  Only skills needed – can you use a broom / can you pull nails?  Great You Are Hired!

Landscaper:  Only skills needed – Can you use a rake / use a lawn mower?   Great You Are Hired!

Electrician:  Only skills needed – can you change a light bulb / know what an extension cord is?  Great You Are Hired!

Carpet Cleaner:  Only skills needed – can you use a vacuum cleaner / can you empty the bag?  Great You Are Hired!

Plumber:  Only skills needed – can you turn on the water / can you change the toilet paper?  Great You Are Hired!

Office Assistant:  Only skills needed – can you turn on the light / can you run errands?  Great You Are Hired!

Bookkeeper:  Only skills needed – can you argue with me about everything / have you heard of QuickBooks / did your last employer go bankrupt /can you go to the bank / do you have lots of friends and relatives that you can chat, call and visit with while on my payroll / can you surf the internet for personal business? Great You Are Hired!

Outrageous – Yes all of the above ideas are. How many times has a hiring decision been based on the “Person’s Need” rather than the needs of your company?

Is Being Your Friend – In need of a job the only hiring qualification? Is this how you make any / some / all of your business hiring decisions? What results are you expecting or do results not matter – on the needs of the person you are helping out.

“Doing It Over” – Usually costs a lot of real money which you may not be able to afford! For Example: Warranty work, it’s immediate, it costs bottom line profits and customer goodwill and not easily seen until it is too late.

Calculate The True Cost - Of having an employee of your payroll before deciding to hire over outsourcing just the parts you need.

How Many Times Have You Said - I don’t have time to do this properly / Let’s just get it done quick….and then spent hours / days / weeks and lots of money doing it over and over until it is done right?

Some Contractors Have Tried - To explain their situation about how they really need to help their friend or a friend of a friend they heard about that really, really needs a job. So they will have them do their company bookkeeping have us review and correct any errors.

Just As The - Carpenter / Roofer / Cement Finisher / Landscaper / Carpet Cleaner / Plumber / Others will come behind to make necessary repairs and perform warranty work we will come behind Cheap Bookkeepers and make repairs of your QuickBooks file.

The Answer Is Always Yes – That we can fix almost any Messy QuickBooks File by the hour and we can review every transaction entered into QuickBooks during our monthly or quarterly review.

Just A Thought – Wouldn’t it be simpler / easier / faster / cost less money to have us do it right The first time?
